TEXAS GLORY by Lorraine Heath
This is the second in a trilogy about three brothers in Texas after the Civil War. You don’t have to read the excellent first book, although you meet its characters briefly in this one. The ambition of the hero is to found an empire and has decided that he will marry his neighbor’s daughter, whom he has never met, to further that goal. Unfortunately, the rumor is that she has no nose, but that doesn’t alter his plan and after the wedding, he discovers the truth. His bride has been badgered, bludgeoned physically (not much is made of this) and mentally by her own father and brothers, so she does pretty much what she’s told. The love story unfolding is funny and delightful.
