Sweet Sixteen Challenge
Snickers – Read a humorous romance
Nobody But You by Jill Shalvis:
While I understood and sympathized with the hero’s reasons for having left town nine years before, the fact he had never gotten in touch with his twin brother or other siblings for the entire time was difficult to believe. Thankfully the matter was somewhat addressed during the book. I wish the author had shown more of his siblings’ reactions, especially given the fact the situation had more page time in his twin’s book before the hero had even returned. I also wish they’d had some deeper discussions about the whole matter on page. I liked the heroine, though she tended to jump to conclusions too often. The subplot involving her ex-husband seemed forced. The heroine made the hero promise not to fall in love with her since they’d born sworn off love, which of course did not work. Their romance was often exasperating as they wouldn’t be fully honest with each other and the ending was tied in too neat of a bow. But it also had a lot of sweet moments. Overall a fun read.

Simply Sixteen Challenge (The Whittler) – Novellas
The Year of the Crocodile by Courtney Milan:
This short story introduced the heroine’s parents to the hero’s father. There was a lot of humor and a little angst. The story would not work well as a stand-alone. I’m looking forward to further books in the series, but not sure if I want to read the hero’s father’s book. If I’ve guessed correctly who the love of his life seems to be then a HEA for the two of them isn’t possible (at least not if the series is to remain a contemporary one). While this was a short story, it raised a lot of questions. At the moment I’m just confused about that storyline. But as a “day in the life” vignette of the hero and heroine from the first book in the series, it’s an enjoyable read.
