Upcoming Romance Author Book Signings

book signingIn January I did a post on my efforts to look for book signings by romance authors. After my original post, several readers and authors commented that they would like to see this as a regular feature at AAR. Time, and personal obligations prevented it from happening sooner, but we’d like to give a serious try to having this as a monthly feature at AAR. But I’m going to need your help! There are only so many signings that I can locate on the Web. But I know that with the diverse geographical representation of AAR readers, we can locate a lot more book signings.

So, to get things going, I’ve set up a special email address (aarbooksign AT gmail.com) for this feature.  I hope that readers, authors, publishers, and booksellers will send information to me there about upcoming romance author book signings. If you learn of an upcoming book signing in your area, or are going to be doing a book signing somewhere, please send me the details (author, date, time, store name, store address), and I will add it to our next monthly post. We’re going to limit this feature to events that are free for readers, so will not be including dinners or events that require paid tickets to attend.

In general, we’ll post events that are within the next three months, so for my September posting (sometime in mid-September), I’ll be looking for book signings that will occur between late September and late December. If you know of a book signing that’s occurring before late September, please post information about it in the comments section below, to alert other romance readers to the event.

And as always, I’ll be interested in hearing from you about your experiences with book signings. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t think there’s a right way or a wrong way to do a book signing. I’ve enjoyed every one I’ve gone to. However, I think it’s best to be prepared before you go. Some things you might want to find out about before attending a book signing are:

(1) Will the author do a reading?
(2) Will the author answer questions from the audience? If so, will the questions have to be submitted in advance?
(3) Will there be a place to sit if you’re not able to stand for a long time?
(4) Do you need to pre-order one of the author’s books from the bookstore?
(5) Do you need to reserve a place at the signing, either by calling ahead, or getting to the site early to get a ticket or bracelet for the event?
(6) How many of the authors’ books will be available on the day of the event for purchase.

(7) Will the author sign books you bring from home, or do they all need to be purchased at the bookstore where the signing occurs?

A note: I found these signings by extensive searches of both author and bookseller Web sites. They all appear to be free, but please contact the bookstore before you attend an event for additional information. And please let us know if you do attend a book signing, and how you liked it.
