I love a slow burn romance or stories where the protagonists have the opportunity to develop a connection outside of sex. This is why I gravitate toward tropes like friends-to-lovers.

I don't like instalove/lust. The former is not believable for me and the latter emphasizes physical attraction too much. This means I don't buy the HEA.

I also don't like heroes who act like sexist jerks.

I live in Washington, DC, where I work for a nonprofit. I am originally from North Carolina and have also lived in Brighton and Manchester in the UK. I love football (soccer), cats, history, social justice, and intersectional feminism.

Background as romance reader: I have been reading romance since I was a preteen. At first, I'd secretly read my mom's romance novels--mostly Harlequins and also lots of Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, and Jackie Collins. My grandmother, who was the first to spark my interest in Jane Austen, also introduced me to Georgette Heyer and Patricia Veryan as a teenager. By the time I was old enough to stop sneaking these and buy my own, I'd read mostly historical romances. Nowadays I still love historical but contemporary as well and every so often fantasy romance. I love and actively seek out diverse romance.
