  • More Than Words

More Than Words is an anthology of stories inspired by real- life women and their true situations. One story is the best I’ve read this year, the others are only about average, and the book is expensive. Caveat emptor!

  • Shop ‘Til Yule Drop

I’ll admit that when I opened this book I wasn’t expecting anything brilliant. I mean, come on – the title is so cheesy it practically screams “Velveeta.” But I really thought it would be better than this. I was hoping it would be light and fun holiday reading. But while the one story is at…

  • Men at Work

The title of this book is slightly misleading; the heroes are a carpenter, a painter, and…er…a ghost. The plots involve renovating an old house, renovating a castle, and…ah…a haunted house. The heroines are an Atlanta marketing executive returning to her small Georgia hometown, a New York designer returning to her Texas hometown, and…um…a happy temp…

  • Mysteries of Lost Angel Inn

The Lost Angel Inn is an appropriate setting for a trio of gothic tales. It’s too bad that the stories that take place there aren’t more interesting. One hundred and forty years ago, a young maid was accused of murdering the owner of the Lost Angel Inn, which was then a private residence. As she…

  • Regency Christmas Magic

The Signet Christmas Regency anthology is something I look forward to every year and this one was well worth the wait. All of this year’s stories center around the theme of magic in some form or fashion, with the tone varying from poignant to supremely whimsical.

  • Secrets: Volume 10

In my experience many romantica novels are filled with little romance and lots of cheesy, kinky situations. Though some of the short stories in this latest Secrets volume featured interesting concepts and plotlines, there was a lack of romance and the stories’ characters, as with many anthologies (romantica and otherwise), were rather underdeveloped.

  • Essence of Midnight

To put it simply, you’ve got one very good story here, another slightly less so, and one true abomination that manages to be both stupid and offensive. Quite an accomplishment, don’t you think? The stories in this hot anthology are loosely tied together by an old bottle said to enhance the paranormal abilities of anyone…

  • Hot Blooded

The stories in this erotic romance anthology are all about heroines who fall in love with powerful, shape-changing heroes, some of whom are also vampires. All of the stories are extremely sensual; the latter two unquestionably cross the line from hot to burning.

  • Cravings

I was hoping to enjoy Cravings more than I did as I’ve read and enjoyed the work of each of these authors before, and I do relish the occasional dip into paranormal fiction. Unfortunately, the stories here mostly came up short.

  • Bad Boys Down Under

Bad Boys Down Under has “beach read” written all over it. With its hot surfer dudes (and chicks) and short-story format (you can probably finish a story before you have to re-apply your sunscreen), it’s perfect for the summer.
