Breaking the Rules
Breaking the Rules is the cutest story I’ve read in a while. An utterly charming heroine and a nice guy try to find themselves and each other, making this story a winner.
Carly Cassidy is a good preacher’s daughter who wants to go bad. Well, sort of. She ran away from her wedding to a man she wasn’t sure she loved, and drove to Chicago, just a few hours away. When her car broke down, she ended up at the Wilde Side, a bar run by former SEAL Cooper Wilde. Talk about an omen. Carly decides to have her own walk on the wild side – in more ways than one. She’s needs to figure out who she is and what she wants. Cooper needs to figure out that he can have what he wants. They’re a match.
Carly is cute, sweet, sassy, honest and nice. She stands up for what she believes in and honestly tries to help Cooper. She sees straight under his exterior to the real issues that he has and faces them head-on. She’s spunky and definitely not TSTL. Her attempts at introducing ladies’ night to Cooper’s bar are truly a delight.
Cooper is just a really nice guy – sexy but not aggressive. He caves in pretty easily when Carly needs a place to stay, but he’s stubborn when he has to be. He finds himself under her spell soon enough. Cooper doesn’t want to run the bar, but responsibility to his uncle keeps him there. He also has issues with his late mother’s lifestyle that prevent him from being able to commit fully to Carly.
Carly and Cooper are combustible. They set off sparks as soon as they meet, and Carly becomes determined to have Cooper. Their relationship is humorous and hot, and great fun to watch.
There is very little I didn’t like about this story. Minor quibbles include Carly’s tendency to utter “Sweet Mary!” when shocked, overwhelmed or surprised, and I have little tolerance for the “it’s in my genes” excuse. Fortunately, Denton doesn’t overdo on the gene thing. The other problem was you could see the outcome of the ending – and I don’t mean the HEA – as soon as Carly’s sisters find her.
I hate to guarantee anything, so let me say I almost guarantee that you’ll enjoy this book and close it with a smile.
