Cursed : All About Romance

Unfortunately, if I had to choose just one word to describe Cursed, it would be convoluted. There are too many characters, with too many different powers, too many secrets, and far too many problems for just one story.

Elizabeth Raines has her hands full. Her mother is on her deathbed, one sister is an addict, the other abandoned her children for a man, her brother is in prison, and she’s left caring for her siblings’ kids in a dilapidated house that holds too many memories. To make matters worse, a curse plagues her family as a result of the actions of her fallen angel father who disappeared from all their lives except for Elizabeth’s and only because of her powers as a dream weaver. She seeks him out in her dreams and he gives her haunting glimpses into a future that doesn’t have a happy ending. Yet, the ending they get depends on the choices she makes.

Her father isn’t the only man she seeks in her dreams; she also dreams of Alex Foster, a man she’s visited in dreams for the last twelve years. When he appears in the flesh at a time when she desperately needs help, she tries to push him away because she doesn’t want to become dependent on him. However, unlike Elizabeth, he knows the threat that hangs over her and her families’ heads and has no choice but to involve himself and his own significant friends. He’s had feelings for her since high school and desperately wants to see where those feelings lead.

Sorting through all the Seraphs, Nephilim, evil villainess who have a taste for blood, half man/half spider beings, and labeling which children belonged to who became so confusing, I almost created my own index of characters. Also, keeping up with who knew about whom and what they knew about one another’s powers constantly kept me backtracking. The writing itself also became a problem at times. At one point three characters would be talking and in the next line the hero and heroine would be necking and I wasn’t sure if the third character was still present or not. The typos in the ARC I had were so numerous they became distracting, but, hopefully, that problem will be corrected in the published edition.

The various characters and many problems overshadow the romance between Elizabeth and Alex – to the point I hardly noticed it. Though the couple gets their HEA in this installment, not every problem is solved and will continue another (probably countless) books in this series. Bottom line? Though I wish I could recommend this book, I can’t.
