Desperately Seeking Duke: The Ultimate Epilogue
After three books and two novellas, Caroline Linden offers up an epilogue to her Desperately Seeking Duke series which ties up tons of loose ends, giving us a look at the futures of Max and Bianca and the series’ other couples a year on, resolving the the cliffhanger (sort of) for William and Phillipa at the end of All the Duke I Need and answering the big question – who becomes the Duke of Carlyle.
If you’ve read the fabulous All the Duke I Need you know that question directly ties into the way that book ends. Here, we get to see the impact of that resoluton on all the couples, and most importantly family is held paramount. Naturally, this is no place to start the series, but the book is an enchanting wrap-up for a trilogy with a lot of spirit and fun. I can’t say too much without giving away too much, but it’s definitely a helpful and fun conclusion to the series.

I enjoyed this series, but was miffed that the final book didn’t really answer all the questions left hanging. I don’t know for sure, but I suspect this was out of the author’s control and she just wasn’t “allowed” the word count she needed to answer the BIG question (who the next duke would be) but I can’t deny that I felt a bit cheated at the end of All the Duke I Need. This is a nice wrap up, but the majority of reviews I’ve read all say that they felt it should have been included with book 3.
Wait–do you mean you never find out which of them, if any, becomes the Duke?
Not in the main series, no, which is why I – and so many other readers/reviewers – were miffed. I honestly can’t believe CL intended it that way; she self-published this epilogue and although it’s not expensive to buy, that’s not really the point. Having to read another book to get the answer to the question posted by the entire series – which is called Desperately Seeking Duke, after all! – shouldn’t be necessary.
But you learn that in this novella?
Yes and we check in with some of the other characters as well. But the answer should, nonetheless, have been part of the main series IMO.
Hmmmmm……
I really, really liked ATDTIN but I probably should’ve gone a little harder on it for not solving the duke mystery thoroughly. Everything else in it is amazing (I still love William as a hero) and this epilogue is sweet and adorable but maybe it would’ve worked best sewn into the back of it.
