Her Forever Man
Grade : C+

I love popcorn. I also love series romances that are the equivalent of popcorn. Tasty, fun and very enjoyable. I hate popcorn hulls. There is nothing more annoying than to have one get stuck in your teeth while you are eating. So I hated it when one stupid little plot point turned out to be the equivalent of a popcorn hull and it bugged, bothered and annoyed me while I was reading this otherwise very enjoyable book.

Brock Logan owns a cattle ranch in Texas. Years ago, his great-great grandfather entered into an agreement with the Chambeau family, making them silent partners in the ranch and giving the Chambeaus the right to visit/vacation on the the ranch any time they wanted to. Felicity, the last of the Chambeau family, decides to come to the ranch. She is down and depressed and just wants to get away. Felicity is a very wealthy woman who had given her heart and her trust to her financial advisor who paid her back by absconding with half her money and another woman.

Brock is not happy about Felicity's visit. It's calving season and his foreman is living in the house where Felicity would be staying so she will have to live with Brock and his kids in the main house. When Felicity arrives, she is beautiful and sweet and kind. Just the person that Brock, whose first wife up and left him and his children, could fall for. But (and here comes the popcorn hull), Brock is convinced that he is a victim of The Logan Curse.

What is The Logan Curse? Logans are unlucky in love. Brock's mother died when he and his brother and sister were young and his father grieved and did not give them the attention they needed. Then when Brock's first wife ran off and left him and the children, he became convinced he was cursed. I would say he was lucky the idiot woman left, but for the longest time, Brock obsesses and obsesses about The Logan Curse.

This obsession on Brock's part about The Logan Curse got to be very annoying to me and it was a shame since there was a lot to like about Her Forever Man. When he wasn't going on about the Curse, he was strong, stawart, and honorable. If you like rancher heroes, Brock's the man. Felicity was a real sweetheart - a poor little rich girl who disappointed her socially-minded parents. Instead of being Little Miss Sparkle - Felicity was quiet, intelligent and not a raving beauty. She matured into a lovely young woman who wanted to be loved, but was leery of being taken for her money.

Leanne Banks is excellent in conveying sexual attraction and tension between her characters and the scenes between Brock and Felicity are sweet, tender, funny and sexy (when he isn't going on about the Logan Curse). Brock's children are wonderful characters. They are realistic and add to the story without getting all cutesy-poo. Brock's brother Tyler and his sister Martina make appearances as well and are set up for their own upcoming books.

So did I enjoy Her Forever Man? Well yes, I still love popcorn even when the hulls get stuck in my teeth. But I want to say one thing to Brock. "Forget about the stupid curse, Brock, there's only one family that was really cursed in love and that's the Cartwrights from Bonanza, you just had a little bad luck".
