People in Glass Houses
People in Glass Houses is the latest book in Castle’s Harmony series which takes place on Harmony, a planet settled by colonists in the late twenty-first century. If you haven’t read any previous books in the series, not to worry, the author has a summary of the Harmony world in a note at the start of the book.
The story begins when Molly is kidnapped from the playground at the School for Orphan Girls where she’s lived since she was a baby. Her best friend, Leona, runs next door and gets help from Griffin Investigations, a lady detective agency. They find Molly in the ruins below the city and the girls are thrilled when they are adopted by the lady detectives. As the girls grow older they discover that the two of them each have special psychic powers.
Now an adult, Molly is creating an energy circle with crystals for a celebrity power couple’s wedding when she gets word that Leona has gone missing on an archaeological expedition in the Glass House Ruins. The only one to make it out is Joshua Knight, an underworld navigator who led the expedition. Molly and her dust bunny, Newton, go to find him at his home in The Funhouse, a haunted house full of mirrors. Joshua can’t remember what happened in the ruins and feels terrible that Leona and the rest of the team have disappeared. He is desperate to find them and when Molly explains how she can help by using dream therapy with her crystals, he is wary but hopeful. They feel a primal intimacy as they do the dream work and he finds her warm and inviting.
Molly and Joshua grow magically close as they search for Leona. I enjoyed watching their romance grow as they explore The Funhouse and the ruins to find Leona and search for answers to the mysteries that surround them, including information about Molly’s past. There are some fun things that made me smile, especially the dust bunnies. Newton somehow manages to become an influencer for Zing Chips!
There were places in the story where I felt it bogged down talking about crystals and I wanted more romance and more of Molly and Joshua together without their focus being solely on the mystery. I always appreciate the author’s subtle humor and would love to see even more. I think it’s helpful to read another book in the series first and I think Guild Boss would be a good choice because it ties in with this book.
I think I’ve read all of Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick/Jayne Krentz’s books and I’m thankful for her comforting reads. If you are looking for a romance with a mystery and cute but vicious dust bunnies, that takes place in an alternate universe, this is fun one to check out.

My favorite sci-fi books by this prolific author are the Lost Colony books, Sweet Starfire, Crystal Flame and Shield’s Lady, which can be read in any order. Sweet Starfire is my favorite overall. I only read a couple of her Harmony books years ago, but I might give them another look.
JAK’s fantasy novels have been so much fun!
The villain in the story has my last name. I wish it was the dust bunny instead. He’s pretty adorable:)
