Road Trip with a Vampire

Road Trip with a Vampire by Jenna Levine features a vampire with amnesia and a witch who accidentally catches things on fire head out on a road trip together! This is the fourth and last book in the My Vampires series and, other than a third act breakup I didn’t love, I think this is Levine’s best book yet!

Zelda is a witch who has worked hard to create a new life for herself with her yoga studio that she runs with her two best friends. She uses yoga to help her manage her magic problem–she lights fires accidentally! She has been trying not to use her magic after disastrous results in her past. She is surprised when Peter, a vampire, shows up at her studio and asks for her help. He has amnesia and Reggie (a vampire from My Vampire Plus One) sent him to her, thinking she might be able to help him get his memory back. At first, she doesn’t want to help him because she tries to avoid vampires (over things from her past). But she feels sorry for Peter and remembers how people helped her when she was starting over, so she agrees to let him stay at her place for a night and invites him to attend some yoga classes. He ends up working at the studio, helping them clean at night.

While Peter is trying to recover his memory, he starts getting threatening letters, but all he can remember from his past is waking up near a locked safe in an abandoned bank with a journal nearby. He begins to worry that he may have worked as a Fang for Hire, doing something shady.

When Zelda has trouble controlling her magic, she decides it might be a good time for them to take a vacation so she can try and learn how to manage her magic. They decide to go on a road trip together and visit places they saw mentioned in Peter’s journal, hoping it will jog his memory. They end up running into people that seem to know him – there are funny times (Diet Coke makes him tipsy) and some spicy times too! Also, there’s a good twist in the story I didn’t see coming!

One quibble I had was when they talked about Peter going out for a bit for ‘feeding’ and there was also a third act break up that I didn’t love. But I love how perfect Zelda and Peter are for each other – they are both pretty much immortals and are able to open up with each other about their past plus they have good chemistry together. It was also fun to see characters from her earlier books in the story.

I enjoyed this charming and lighthearted vampire/witch romance and I’m sad to see this series coming to an end. I can’t wait to see what Jenna Levine comes up with next!

Kayne Spooner is an avid reader of all genres, but it's romance books that have always swept her off her feet. Kayne gravitates toward stories with humor and furry sidekicks, although really, if there's a happy ever after, she's here for it!

This sounds good. Do you have to read the previous books in this series to enjoy this one?
