Stuck On You is a nice mix of romantic comedy and mystery set in Plentiful, Wyoming, a cute and quaint town populated with cute and quaint characters. While a pleasant enough read, it lacked that certain spark that would have lifted it much above average.

Scarlett O’Malley’s father was a rich and famous mystery writer who left her his beautiful old home and a pot of money. Scarlett has turned part of her home into a mystery bookstore/tea shop. It’s a good thing she has a large inheritance since she never seems to have any customers save a trio of cute and kooky little old ladies who love mysteries and scones. Scarlett herself is a cute and perky little bit of a thing with curly red hair. Except for a couple of times when she dons jeans (tight ones of course) Scarlett dresses like Christina Aguilera – only sluttier. Blue leather mini-skirt, leather bikini top, red thong, and 5 inch stilettos – and an American flag stud in her cute little belly button. Said belly button (and its various studs) is described over and over and over and over and over and over until I wanted to scream – very loudly. If the author wasn’t describing Scarlett’s cute little belly button, she was describing her cute little bottom, which seemed to be on springs, since it was constantly wiggling.

The book begins when two strangers come to town. One is an unpleasant little old lady who stops by Scarlett’s bookstore, buys a book, and intimates that she has a Big Secret to tell. But before she can spill the beans, she’s dead.

The second stranger is tall, dark, handsome, and hunky Logan (Big Bad) Wolfe, whom the cute little old ladies think is a gigolo since he is seen being kind and attentive to one of their friends. Scarlett doesn’t quite know what to think of him (except he’s really hot). They meet when she snags her belly button ring on his jeans and then things take off – most notably the mystery and their clothes.

Logan is hunky and has lots of charm. He likes to fish, he likes cats, and has a quirky hobby – he collects Elvis memorabilia. Once a cop in LasVegas, he left the force after he turned in his partner for corruption. As cops don’t like cops who turn in other cops, Logan was outcast. He mourns the loss of his career as being a cop is all he ever wanted to do. Logan is in Plentiful to recoup and figure out what he wants to do next, but he never expected to fall for Scarlett.

Scarlett is a mix of endearing and annoying, with endearing slightly coming out on top. She is flighty, prone to being a bit silly, but not really TSTL. She and Logan have a nice hot tension simmering between them, and after they to and fro a bit, they get down and scorch the sheets. Scarlett is supposed to be a bit of a sexual novice, but she must have read a lot, or maybe her bottom really is on springs considering how active they are. Logan and she lust so much but have so little in common that I wondered how they would get along after the initial glow wears off and her bottom isn’t quite so springy.

The mystery itself is not all that mysterious. I knew who did it from the very beginning, and like many a romance villain, he spills all the beans while he has Logan and Scarlett at his mercy. It occurs to me that if villains weren’t so talkative, they would have a better chance of being successful in their villainy.

Fans of romantic comedy/mystery may enjoy Stuck On You. While Scarlett and the cute little old ladies were almost too much, reading the book was rather a pleasant experience, albeit an unexceptional one. I can handle perhaps a bit more “cute” than other readers, but this one sits on the edge of overkill. If you are allergic to “cute,” take a pass on this one, but otherwise you might want to give this one a try – you could do worse.
