The Lone Rider Takes a Bride
Grade : B

Little girls are cute, but little boys are adorable. The Lone Rider Takes a Bride begins with a group of ten year old boys (members of the Bad Boys Club), who are meeting and plotting to get back at another boy who wrote WIMP on their clubhouse. Ben Palmer, the leader of the pack, tells the others that when he grows up he's going to get a tattoo and a black leather jacket and ride nothing but motorcycles for the rest of his life. Then he plants a stinkbomb on the WIMP writer's lawn and takes off on his bike.

Now, Ben is 29 years old, has a motorcycle (a Harley naturally), a tattoo (a cobra, of course), and a black leather jacket (once worn by Evel Kneivel). One night at the local biker bar, Ben spots a woman in a dress that is not skimpy, short and tight. Clearly she is not a regular, so he rescues her from a man who is trying to pick her up. The woman is Amelia Russell, a history teacher from the local college who is there with a friend. Her friend thinks Amelia needs to get out and do something wild, but a biker bar is just a little too wild for Amelia. Amelia and Ben sense an immediate attraction to each other, and he takes her for a slow ride on his Harley.

The following day, neither Ben nor Amelia can stop thinking about each other and begin to go out together. Amelia wants Ben to teach her how to ride a motorcycle. As Ben and Amelia spend more and more time with each other, the attraction between the two of them gets hotter and hotter, but they still have doubts as to their relationship. After all, he is a Bad Boy and she is a Good, (really Good) Girl.

This is a funny and sexy book. Leanne Banks is without peer in writing characters that are likable, and have layers to their personalities. Ben Palmer wears black leather, has an earring, long hair, and a few misdemeanor convictions in his past. But he also loves to spend time with his nephew, can make the best cookies in town, participates in every charity event he can and runs a very successful import car dealership. Now is he really Bad, or just a little unruly?

Amelia is a college teacher who dresses very conservatively. She's always done the proper thing and never stuck out in a crowd. But Amelia has a spark in her eyes and hair that is wild and curly. She reads Victoria's Secret catalogues when she thinks no one is looking and has always wanted to be, well not Bad, but just a little wild.

I enjoyed The Lone Rider Takes a Bride, but I thought there was too much angsting on the part of Amelia and Ben about how they are so very different from each other. Actually, they are both very much alike - two wanna-be Rebels With a Cause - to love each other and have fun.
