Unlawful Contact
Narrated by Kaleo Griffith
The Official Unlawful Contact Blurb: When a young woman disappears, journalist Sophie Alton investigates and is led to the woman’s brother, a convicted killer who is running from the law. Together, they follow a dangerous path toward the truth – and unforgettable passion.
The Story: I’m just now settling into the rhythm of the I-Team which, in my mind was going to be some Special Ops thing, but is actually a team of Investigative Reporters at a Denver newspaper. Yeah, I’m a little late to the party, and even by this, the 3rd in the series, I’m expecting the Navy SEALs to be on this I-Team (they’re not).
Sophie already knows the mysterious “brother” (Marc Hunter) from The Blurb because she lost her virginity to him a decade or so earlier in high school, and she’s carried a torch for him ever since. There are some plot twists that make their reunion more of a surprise, though – she didn’t know the woman she was writing about was the younger sister – small world, eh?; despite crushing on him in high school, she didn’t know his full name (that was a really hard-to-believe piece of info); and she doesn’t recognize him for a long, long time after he abducts her at gunpoint.
There are several leaps of faith to be made in this plot, but once I leapt, I enjoyed the ride.
The Narration: Yeah, Kaleo is all that and more. He’s got the deep, deep, smoky voice you like to hear read you a story and he keeps his female characters in a register that’s easy to listen to. He carries on the characters from earlier books and he keeps the story moving forward at a good pace. The series has been enhanced by his performance, that’s for sure!
