Today’s Steals and Deals at AAR…..

We so enjoyed this–it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it on sale! In our rave review, we said: There is so much I liked about this one, it’s hard to find a place to start. Given that, I have to rave about the Egyptian setting, which I’m pretty much always a sucker for. The river, trade, street crime, and poverty are all characters in their own right. The author also makes clear the limited rights and the precarious situation women often faced, both in Egypt and England.

We do enjoy a smart Jennifer Crusie. In our review of Fast Women, our reviewer said: I really admire Crusie’s writing ability. Her books are layered in such interesting ways. And all of the trademark Crusie is there: the humor, the snappy dialogue, the funky symbolism and the goofy dog. I laughed out loud several times, and the love scenes were pretty hot. There were also a number of a thought-provoking moments in betwixt all of the action and laughter. Crusie is obviously familiar with all of the problems of divorce, and she makes some interesting points about the nature and process of marital love.

I adore this book. It’s unique, smart, and riveting. In my DIK review, I wrote: This book is also wonderfully sex, queer, you-be-you positive. The author is adamant that any religion that doesn’t want you to think for yourself, shames you for your desires, tells you who you can canoodle with, or forces its denizens into subservient roles is unequivocally, morally wrong. If you’ve been looking for a progressive read that celebrates all kinds of relationships, cis, het, or poly, you’ll enjoy the hell out of this book.
