This is one of my personal favorites. It’s a marriage of convenience story between two strong-willed, complex leads who, together, create enough heat to power Alaska. In our B+ review–this would be a DIK for me–Caz wrote: 

Love in the Time of Scandal is an engrossing story that can be read as a standalone, although the other two books are excellent and well worth reading, too. Ms Linden writes with a great deal of wit and intelligence, all the characters are strongly drawn and the central romance is well developed with plenty of sexual tension between the leads and steamy love scenes.

We gave this inspirational romance a B+. It made quite the splash in 2015. Our reviewer explains:

What exactly has everyone in such a tizzy? Well, it’s not the basic plot which is as follows: Flossie Jayne is an aspiring painter who finds herself in need of money to pay for art school. She does the unthinkable for a middle class girl of her time and accepts a job! She works as a Tiffany Girl, one of the artists who contributed to the mosaic chapel made entirely of stained glass which Louis Tiffany unveiled at the 1893 World Fair. Flossie has loads of adventures as she moves into a boarding house, meets some fascinating characters, and falls in love.

What makes the book controversial is that Flossie’s love interest, Reeve Wilder, expresses sexual interest in her. Not overtly but there is a scene where the two are kissing and he would very much like to take it to the next level. Since he is a fellow boarder at the rooming house she is in, the two happen to be standing in his bedroom while these passionate kisses are exchanged. Reeve pushes Flossie out the door before anything untoward can happen but alas! the damage has been done in some readers’ minds.

Then Ms. Gist goes for the gusto and invites us into the opening sequence of Flossie’s wedding night. The two characters remain more clothed than most 21st century people do walking the streets during the summer but some readers still found it shocking that the author would depict a couple kissing while wearing trousers and an undershirt (him) and underwear that covers more than shorts and a t-shirt (her). Hopefully absolutely no one will listen to these naysayers. Tiffany Girl is a charming, fun book and the author doesn’t deserve the bad publicity.

Linda Howard can write some serious steam–it’s abundant in this romance. In our B+ review, we wrote:

This book is a lot of fun, and with good reason – a typical Linda Howard hotter-than-hot hero, a smart and totally feisty, yet always feminine, heroine, the vilest of baddies, lots of action and dry, wry humor. And, of course, the steamiest sex in Brazil.

…. this is a top-notch romantic adventure. So, if you’re looking for a read that’s fast- paced and fun, look no further than Heart of Fire.

The Beloved One is a book we–and Julia Quinn–rave about. In our DIK review, our reviewer wrote:

The Beloved One is one of those books that I could hardly make myself put down. You know how it is; you are supposed to eat and sleep now and then, but you’d much rather be reading! When I have that feeling, I know I have a desert isle keeper on my hands. Practically perfect from start to finish, The Beloved One keeps you on the edge of your seat as the plot twists and turns, and leaves you with a tear in your eye. It has a wounded hero to die for, a heroine to admire, and a wonderful cast of secondary characters as well. Who could ask for anything more?
