Today’s Steals and Deals at AAR…..

I love this book–it’s one of my all time favorite historical romances. In our DIK review, we wrote:

The interaction between Maria and Phillip is wonderful, their chemistry strong. Tension and emotion are both very real with them. There are some powerful moments and conversations between them, one incredibly reminiscent of my favorite scene from Pride and Prejudice.

Authentic-sounding period dialogue is another strength of Ms. Guhrke’s, as are the details of late 19th century life. I liked reading about the technology developed during the mid-to-late 1800s, perhaps because it’s somewhat rare among historicals to be set this late in the Victorian era.

I like this one better than Heather did. I liked the heroine’s path to HEA and, like the best of Jordan’s work, this is a sexy book. I guess it’s a YMMV book!

This, by the great Joanne Harris, is a DIK for me. In our review, I said:

SO, in the world of this book, humans exist side by side with fairies. The fairies, due to a romance that turned sour ages ago, have split into two kingdoms, that of the Moths and the Butterflies, and are at war with one another. Tom, a man who lives a quiet, rather empty life as a photographer in London, falls, he thinks, in love with a Butterfly, the gorgeous Vanessa. As he pursues her, he becomes ensnared in the fairy world and its war. And, slowly, he realizes his connection with the fairies runs far deeper than he would have ever expected.

I loved this set up. I love fairy tales and this is an intricate one, with heroes and villains on all sides.

Heath wrote this historical romance over twenty years ago. This is the first time I’ve seen it on sale. In our review we said:

Ms. Heath is a vivid writer and she very much made me believe in the passionate love between Rhys and Lydia – their love scenes, especially, are both torrid and very, very sexy. I also have to say that as someone (like many of us) who’s dreamed of attending a London ball from almost the first moment I could I read, I identified with both Lydia’s awe at her surroundings and her eagerness to be accepted.

We gave this a pleased B. In our review, we wrote: Beautiful Sinner is a small town redemption romance with likable characters who deserve their happy ever after.
