Today’s Steals and Deals at AAR…..

This is one of my two favorite books by the very good Guhrke. (The other is The Secret Desires of a Gentleman.) We wrote: Guhrke has created quite the wounded hero. While still very young his father grieved himself into a state of madness, and as a result, Tremore was forced to take on the responsibilities of the title. And ever since, he’s mistrusted the power of love. It is for that reason he plans a dispassionate marriage and has kept his heart free of entanglements. But Daphne is so perfect a match for him that he is terrified of his feelings toward her.

This is a DIK. And oh, is it worth reading.  How to Catch a Queen is one of the best romances of the year, and it is a special delight worth indulging in.

Want a historical romance that delves, accurately, into history? Here you go! We wrote: O’Brien has clearly done her research and does an excellent job of inserting historical detail into the story without overwhelming readers or lecturing to them. She also manages to show Kate and Marcus interacting with their families and spending time actually living life both together and apart. This, together with the fact that the story is spread over several months rather than a mere week or two, makes the book feel like a compact, complete world in itself. It is not easy to create such a complex historical in only 300 pages, but O’Brien manages it.

You already own this right? I love this book and so do the vast majority of historical romance readers! In my rave review, I wrote: As Alex and Genevieve move from witty wordplay to passionate foreplay, the relationship between them shifts and what began as a story about a young maiden and an older rake becomes something much more nuanced. At the end of the novel, when Alex takes a risk that would have been unthinkable for him prior to falling in love with Genevieve, her reaction and the story’s denouement are beautifully and satisfyingly done.
