There are a couple of books on sale today that are faves of mine. This one is, IMHO, the best romance Campbell ever wrote. Virgin hero, horticulture, danger on all sides–it’s a gem. In our review, we wrote:

Widow Grace Paget wakes up from a laudanum-induced sleep to find herself strapped to a table and in the company of a madman. After wandering around Bristol looking for the cousin who failed to pick her up from the coaching inn, she was kidnapped by two nasty specimens who took her for a prostitute. Grace thought her life as a poor relation in her cousin’s household after the death of her husband was going to be difficult. Now she finds that her role is to be mistress to a madman. But, though Matthew looks a bit wild, there is intelligence and compassion in his eyes. Will he help her escape her prison?

When she wrote this, SEP said she wanted to write a historical romance set in our times. This one has a forced marriage, an arrogant hero, and a bubbly virginal do gooder heroine… and it works. It’s a very fun read. In our review we wrote:

This is not a plot-driven romance, although Phillips does a fine job structuring the book. It is, instead, a wonderful character piece, and therein lies its charm. Both Daisy and Alex are likable and admirable, and their scenes together are sexy and fun. Their relationship has a sweet, caring quality to it that is very touching. If you like marriages of convenience, spunky heroines, alpha males, or visits to the circus, Kiss an Angel is just the book for you.

Honestly, I thought I’d hate this one, but no, I enjoyed it. In our DIK review, we wrote:

Kristy Marie crafts a compelling slow-burn narrative that builds true intimacy between the spunky, candidly honest Ainsley and the broody, secretive Maverick. ‘Mainsley,’ as I’ve nicknamed the young couple, cares for each other in surprisingly tender ways that could melt even the most cynical reader’s heart. I lost count as to how many times I sent the couple virtual bear hugs, and I admit to having virtually bear hugged super-hot Maverick for an uncomfortably long time. I remain a tad obsessed with him even as I write this. There is something powerfully alluring about a hunky poker player who can casually seal a deal with a Queen of Diamonds kept inside the jeans back pocket covering his perfectly firm ass.
