Elegantly written, refreshingly adult, and over-the-moon erotic, Duke of Sin marks the author’s return to form in a very, very big way and, to put it simply, I loved it.
How did I love it? Let me count the ways. I loved the pleasingly authentic Victorian tone of the author’s prose and her wonderful touch with dialogue. I loved heroine Vivian Rael-Lamont’s pragmatic independence; her frankly adult perspective on the world; and the direct, straight-forward approach she takes to tackling some undeniably daunting problems. And, not to put too fine a point on it, I loved virtually everything about the Duke of Trent, Ms. Ashworth’s oh-so-memorable hero. I love me some Jackie Lau. Longtime readers of this site know she excels at rivals-to-lovers romances, and Love, Lies and Cherry Pie is no exception to the rule. The dialogue crackles, the interpersonal relationships sparkle and the romance is typically fantastic.
Emily Hung is a barista who (barely) has time to write. Her mother wants her to get married, and she hopes the practically-perfect son of their friends will fill that role. But Emily is not attracted to Mark Chan when her mother finally shoves them together.

What you have here is a steamy romance set in a small town setting. Trish and Joe were childhood sweethearts in every sense of the word. But with so much history between them and different lives, how can they make it work out? Joe is content owning his own garage and fixing cars. Trish loves her life as a lawyer and is still at odds with Joe deciding if she can forgive him.
A man like Joe could play dirty, but instead he courts Trish by taking her out on actual dates and lends a hand at her parent’s farm since her father is getting too old to do the work. And of course Joe is a master in very steamy sex. They engage in any fantasy you can think of. Joe even has a cute nickname for Trish; he calls her “cupcake”, and along with the name there is a very interesting scene involved some of those treats and icing.

Addie and Logan’s Special Connection was more apparent to them than me initially, but I was pleasantly surprised that Kiley’s interpretation of the enemies-to-lovers trope was one where both parties are entirely aware of their interest in each other very early on. And they hit their stride when their tour hits the road. Kiley does a wonderful job of evoking Addie and Logan’s physical attraction, highlighting its nuances and showing how it permeates everything. Logan becomes fixated on the bow on Addie’s shirt—“He wanted to tug the sashes tied together . . . at her waist more than he’d wanted a driving license”. And Addie notices while on a phone call that “she’d wound her navy scarf around her wrists and clutched it to her chest like she had with Logan’s hands.”
Kilt Trip also features one of the most original sex scenes I’ve read in ages. I love a good all-in love scene, where there is (as the saying goes) a little less talk and a little more action. But what I found so refreshing was how Kiley shows that even if one’s not talking, one can definitely be thinking throughout sex. Addie goes on an entire emotional journey in her head the first time she goes to bed with Logan. Not only that, but he’s aware and helps her work through it.
