Caz gave this historical romance by MacLean a DIK. It’s an earlier one which means its leads are more traditional than her more recent works. Caz wrote: No Good Duke Goes Unpunished is well-written, funny, tender and heart-breaking; and in Temple and Mara, Ms MacLean has created a compelling central couple who, despite an inauspicious beginning, thoroughly deserve their hard-won HEA – and each other.

Em wrote: James does a lovely job showing these two falling in love – despite their mutual lack of relationship experience – and she ratchets up the sexual tension until an incendiary kiss leads them to engage in increasingly risky behaviors whenever no one is watching. They bicker and flirt and make up and kiss – truly, it’s great fun – and then they get caught. But James doesn’t belabor the circumstance that leads to their engagement; instead she embraces it as a way to once again show the trust and affection they’ve already established. It’s a happy union right from the start, in bed and out of it. Friends, these two are delightfully naughty all the time, and this reader was here for it.

Lynn wrote: At its best moments, Hello Stranger provides readers with an interesting heroine and a passionate romance between intelligent, equally matched individuals. The window into non-aristocratic life in Victorian England proves refreshing as well. The story doesn’t always flow smoothly, and I did at times long for a more vivid hero but I’m still happy I read this romance. While my recommendation does come with some qualifications, this is still a book well worth reading, particularly if you like heroines who push at the boundaries for what was acceptable in their time.
