Today’s Steals and Deals at AAR…..

We haven’t reviewed this but we’ve enjoyed others of Lowell’s books and we do love a good Victorian. Readers like this one a lot. It’s smart, incredibly well told, and the leads are lovely.

This Sabrina Jeffries got a B from us. We wrote:The Secret Art of Flirting is an undemanding, quick read featuring two attractive principal characters, a well-drawn secondary cast and an intriguing plot.

We gave Julia Justiss’ The Proper Wife a B+. In her review, Caz wrote: The Proper Wife is another perfect example of a book whose elements have been seen before. We have an impoverished military man returning to civilian life, who falls in love with exactly the sort of woman he originally disdains. And again, what makes this book work are the characters. I particularly admire the heroine. Clarissa is definitely out of the common way, and she may be a little too unusual for those who demand perfection in their heroines, because she definitely isn’t perfect. When the book begins she seems self-absorbed and a little shallow. Some of the things she does are not exactly brilliant. But she never comes across as stupid; instead she seems human. She’s a refreshing change from all the perfect bluestockings out there, and even though she’s a little vain she never teeters over the edge into conceit.

I love Darkfever–it was the first romance I read when I came back to romance as adult. In our review we wrote, With this new change in direction, Karen Marie Moning doesn’t, as I had feared, jump the literary shark. She gives us enough to get us hooked and leave us panting for the next nine months until the next book in the series is due out.
