Meet Reviewer Ha Nguyen

 About Me Favorite Romance Novels

Hi, my name is Ha, and I’m a book addict. I’m of Asian origin but grew up and live in Bavaria, Germany. German is my first language. When I was about twelve, one of my teachers introduced our class to the local library – I remember thinking I’ve died and gone to heaven

My first romance novel was Velvet Angel by Jude Deveraux, found in the aforementioned, wondrous library. It was love at first page; I’ve been hooked on the romance genre ever since. Nowadays, the library still is one of my favorite places, besides the local bookstores and Amazon.de. When I realized how many books by favorite authors were not translated into German, I decided to switch languages and read the English originals. I never looked back.

A whole new world opened up – and thanks to AAR, also many, many wonderful, new romance authors. Becoming an AAR reviewer is like a dream come true. I look forward to discussing books with fellow readers at AAR.

Personal Reading Tastes Favorites by Sub-Genre

What I’m a sucker for in a book: Outstanding writing! Picky and loyal, that’s me. Once I have come to like an author’s voice, I want to read everything by this author, no matter the genre. Also non-negotiable are memorable, well-drawn characters and captivating plots with real conflicts. I adore Beauty and the Beast stories, forbidden/unrequited love, seemingly insurmountable conflicts, tortured, flawed characters, (black) humor, and the first-person point of view.

What I don’t particularly care for in a book: One-dimensional villains, whining, self-pitying heroes, dimwitted heroines with no backbone, adultery, cheating, rape, long separations, and mustachioed heroes ;)

What drives me absolutely nuts in a book: Obtrusive, repetitive writing, unbelievable, sketchy characterization, and illogical, bumpy, boring plots.
