  • Lords of Passion

Anthologies remind me of the “Dignity, always dignity” line from Singin’ in the Rain. Only I think of it as, “Entertainment, always entertainment.” A Brava anthology? I don’t just trot out the bottom line, I cement it to my forehead. And this one passes.

  • Regency Christmas Proposals

Ah, Christmas anthology season. Give me some mistletoe, maybe the odd yule log, and I’m happy. Regency Christmas Proposals is a nice addition to the holiday subgenre. With two solidly good stories – and one guilty pleasure – it’s just the sort of read I look forward to this time of year.

  • The Other Side

The other side. Most of us are curious about what it holds for us after we leave this life. But what about when we can’t leave this life? When unfinished business holds us here until we can resolve our issues and head to our final reward burden free? Four of the tales in this anthology…

  • Deadly Promises

Sometimes I pick up an anthology because it contains stories that are connected to series I like; at other times I get started on a new series due to a story in an anthology. With Deadly Promises, neither was the case: While I do not feel prompted to make inroads on any of these authors’…

  • Bespelling Jane Austen

Many readers are probably already familiar with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and the other mashups out there. Bespelling Jane Austen does not really fall into that category. Though it reimagines Jane Austen’s work in a paranormal world, the stories in this anthology are original and quite enjoyable.

  • Fire

Fire. One of the prime elements according to ancient man. Dangerous and deadly, life giving and light giving, it has been the source of fascination for generations. In this new collection of short stories we read about five different beings who are fire. And whose fire saves or destroys those around them.

  • Awakened by a Kiss

Since I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings and I’m always on the hunt for unique historical settings, it is perhaps inevitable that Lila DiPasqua’s Awakened by a Kiss would find its way to me at some point. In this anthology, various fairytales get reimagined with King Louis XIV of France’s children and court playing important…

  • Burning Up

I’ll be honest here. I read anthologies for one reason only: Favorite authors. Some obsessive/compulsive element in my personality forces me to read any tale that takes place in a series I am following. This book had one such tale – I am a big fan of the Psy/Changeling books – and the minute I…

  • Undone

I love reading across a variety of time periods so when I saw that Undone drifted from Georgian to Medieval and then to Reformation Scotland, I picked it up. It doesn’t exactly start off strong, but the stories do have their enjoyable moments. The overall quality is uneven, but it’s not a bad read.
