Today’s Steals and Deals at AAR…..

I so enjoyed this book. (I’m reviewing later this week and it’s a DIK for me!)

Poe Webb built her podcast, Tell Me What You Did, on the premise that people want to confess. Every week, anonymous callers admit to crimes—some petty, some monstrous—and Poe listens. She asks sharp, calm questions, curates the chaos, and walks away with another hit episode. But her own story is harder to control. Seven years ago, she tracked down the man she believed murdered her mother and shot him. This, no one knows.

The unraveling begins with a call. A man named Ian Hindley claims, in eerie detail, that he was the one who killed Poe’s mother seventeen years ago. His voice is steady. His information is damning. He cannot be telling the truth—except maybe he is. Ian wants to go live on Halloween. He says he knows what Poe did, and he wants to tell that story too.

We love Jo Goodman and this early one show why. This story has depth, angst, history, and passionate true love. In our DIK review, our reviewer wrote:

Why haven’t I been reading Jo Goodman? That will be the question floating through many minds when they pick up If His Kiss is Wicked. I’m certainly pondering it. I’m going to turn dictator on this one occasion because you must, simply must read this.

We gave this one a B+. Maggie wrote:

Ryan’s prose is elegant and engaging, her characterizations rich and wonderful, and her historicity is blended perfectly into her story telling. If you like women’s fiction and tales of the second world war at all, you will love any book written by her including this one.

The Wedding Dress Sewing Circle is a perfect meringue cookie of a book.

Love Katherine Center? Here you go! We wrote:

The Bodyguard is goofy, cartoony and filled with slapstick humor, but that’s part of its charm.  The bad guys are so outrageously bad that they spend their time on-page twisting their mustaches, and the good guys are walking saints. Don’t come into this one expecting anything serious; every goofy choice just adds to the pile of the ridiculous things done by these characters until you can’t do anything other than sit back and laugh at it all.
