On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Law

I will do my best to be
Honest and Fair,
Friendly and Helpful,
Considerate and Caring,
Courageous and Strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
And to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Motto

“Be Prepared.”

Slogan

“Do a Good Turn Daily”

It has been a long long time since I was in Scouts. I started out as a Brownie, and then moved away to a different town and they didn’t have Girl Scouts but instead had Camp Fire Girls. Still I do have fond memories of going to meetings, earning my badges and selling a lot of candy.

The reason I am mentioning Girl Scouts is that they turn 100 today, and there are a lot of special activities planned.

Girl Scouts in New York will be lighting the Empire State Building green and joining a flash mob around the Flatiron Building in Midtown Manhattan.

Girl Scouts in Arizona will have lunch with the Governor, and girls in Sacramento, California will visit the Legislature.

In Nebraska, they are breaking ground for a new outdoor education centre in Lincoln, and starting an online fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 for girls in one day.

And Scouts from Texas and Oklahoma are going to Six Flags Over Texas ( I hate to say this but that sounds like a lot more fun than lunch with the governor.)

And FYI, if you haven’t bought your Girl Scout Cookies yet, you probably shouldn’t delay. I am told that the cookie selling season is coming to a close.

Do you have fond memories of your time in Scouts? Did your daughters join too? Do you think organization like this help young girls with their self-esteem?
