[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uar1rWVAJV0As a rule, I don’t like werewolves, be it in books, in movies or TV series. Of late, there has been one exception: Monroe, played by Silas Weir Mitchell, from the show Grimm. (If you take a look at the video, he’s the bearded guy figured prominently in the trailer’s middle and end.)

Monroe is not actually called a werewolf. Instead, he is identified as a Blutbad (bloodbath in German – the way the show takes up and reuses German is hilarious!). But he takes on wolf-like features, he has great strength and enhanced senses. That’s werewolf enough for me.

Monroe is actually a reformed supernatural character. He is a clockmaker by profession, loves wine and classical music, and gets annoyed when he is interrupted during his Pilates exercises. When the main character in the show, who can see supernatural creatures for what they are, first meets Monroe, he suspects him of being a murderer. Later he returns to Monroe when he needs information about other supernatural beings. While Monroe first comes across as a purely funny character, slowly his wild side and his great courage are revealed, and he becomes the hero’s sidekick (giving him more scenes – hooray!).

I love Monroe. He’s the reason I watch Grimm.

Is there a show where you have fallen in love with a minor character?
