Never on a Sundae is an odd book that’s more than a little difficult to categorize. The spine proclaims it to be a contemporary romance anthology, though I’d say it’s more Chick Lit than anything else. The stories are all loosely connected by a retro diner in Manhattan called Sundaes, where the characters are either…
There is only so much an author can do in a hundred pages. With brevity in mind, I approached both stories with the knowledge that I would be left wanting more. I was pleasantly surprised. I found both novellas quite pleasing. This was a good read for someone with a very hectic holiday season, and…
With all the praise for Cheryl St. John’s The Preacher’s Daughter earlier this year, I got curious about this author and took the opportunity to review short stories by her and two other authors. I read very few Western romances and wanted to know if this was a genre I should include more often in…
Christmas anthologies are a romance tradition, and there are some wonderful ones out there. Not this one. I’m Your Santa is the equivalent of the proverbial lump of coal in the stocking.
Christmas anthologies are a huge comfort read for me. I actually picked up Christmas Wedding Belles without even reading the back. I figured it had Christmas and a Miranda Jarrett story; what’s not to love? It turns out that all the stories are somehow connected with “high seas adventure.” Sure enough, there’s a boat on…
Let me start this review by saying that Diana Gabaldon is my absolute favorite author. That being said, you may find it odd that this collection of three stories was the first Lord John book that I have read, even though Lord John and the Private Matter has sat on my shelf for about two…
My second Secrets experience was all over the place. Two great stories paired with one bad and one that was blah. I’m still trying to figure out why these four were put together; a motlier crew I couldn’t find.
With an array of interesting-sounding stories inspired by the four elements of air, earth, water, and fire, Elemental Magic had the potential to be a wonderful read. However, the quality of the stories varied greatly, making this merely a mediocre read overall. Though more fantasy than romance, I adored the Shinn story most of all,…
For me, the Secrets anthologies have always delivered in the realm of romantic short stories. Even though volume 21 failed to shine as brightly as previous collections, it’s a bit like the chocolate metaphor: even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.
