Every once in a while, it’s good to just get away for a girls weekend and one of my favorite cities to get away to is New York. It’s an easy city to take in small doses, where you leave something left undone for the next time you visit. This time my sister and I did the usual things as well as some new things. However, if I’m completely honest, I have to admit that the whole time we were in the city I secretly wanted to catch a glimpse of Rob Pattinson filming Remember Me. I wasn’t that lucky, but we did see Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams filming Morning Glory. I found out after the fact from US Weekly, that Pattinson hangs out in the East Village bar Black & White when in New York. If I’d known that before hand, I so would have been there. Oh, well.
Like usual, we visited Times Square and Central Park, but on this trip we visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was a first for me. My favorite things there were the room recreations in the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts exhibit and the Arms and Armor. My favorite paintings were the Degas and Monet works in the European Paintings exhibit. The one exhibit I totally did not get was the Francis Bacon: A Centenary Retrospective, which was the most crowded exhibit. If anyone can explain the appeal, please do. Another new experience for me was dining at the modern Chinese restaurant Buddakan. To describe the experience in one word – awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the city.
However, the highlight of my New York experience occurred in Atlanta. On Tuesday night, after arriving back in town, my family went to the Braves and Yankees game at Turner Field. Not only did the boys get to see Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, my oldest son was picked to do the Cap Shuffle on the big screen at the end of the second inning. Needless to say, I was one proud mom.
Where do you go to get away and why?
